Phase#1 Pre sea Familiarization and safety studies:: 4 Months

The first phase provides students with a background to the maritime industry as well as essential safety to study components mandated as perquisites for seagoing employment. Studies meeting the requirements of Table A-VI/1.1 -1.4 of the STCW '95 Code with respect to initial safety study. The phase must be completed at the Academy of Maritime Studies.

Phase#2 Seagoing Studies :: 24 Months
Building on the background and safety content of Phase # 1, students undertaking Phase # 2 proceed to sea for a period of 24 months as deck cadets. Whilst undertaking many routine and operational duties at sea, at the discretion of the ship’s officers, the cadet will complete onboard study program called Shipboard Structured Training Program (S.S.T.P.) / Distance Learning Program( D.L.P.) consisting of project work, correspondence material and record book. This study is designed to lead the student through the various aspects of a Second Mate.
Stipend approx. 300 - 700 U.S. $ per month

Phase#3 IInd Mates - Deck Watch keeper (Diploma) Studies :: 6 Months
On completion of the onboard study phase, cadets enroll in and complete the Diploma in Transport & Distribution (Second Mates), to be conducted at the WA Maritime Training Centre – Fremantle, Australia. Study includes consolidation of the on the-job program, many practical and safety related components as well as an elective stream in a specific industry sector.

Phase#4 Seagoing Experience :: 18 Months
During the Phase #4 candidates will gain sea services as 3rd / 2nd officer incharge of a navigational watch in order to satisfy eligibility requirements for the Chief Mates Certificate of Competency.
Salary approx. 3500 - 5500 U.S. $ per month

Phase#5 Chief Mate - Advanced Diploma (Academic & Practical) Studies :: 6 Months
In the final phase of Advanced Diploma students undertake studies appropriate to ship management duties .This includes administration and organization, business and law ship handling, Ship Master nautical knowledge and command navigation (simulation). On completion of this study students would complete their academic program and attempt their Chief Mate’s orals.

Phase#6 Masters - (Academic) Studies :: 6 Months
Students will be encouraged to continue their off-the-job studies at this point for a further 6 months in order to complete the academic components of the Ship Master Program

Phase#7 Seagoing Experience :: 12 - 18 Months
Students will gain sea service as 2nd / Chief Deck Officer incharge of a navigational watch in order to satisfy eligibility requirements for the Masters Certificate of Competency / Masters Orals.
Salary approx. 5500 - 8500 U.S. $ per month

Phase#8 Masters - Orals :: 2 Weeks
After the necessary sea service with Chief Mate’s Certificate of Competency, students will undertake Ship Masters orals.

Sail as Captain of the Ship
Salary approx. 8500 - 15000 U.S. $ per month
